The Teen Spot for Grades 6 to 12
The Spot is an afterschool program for middle school and high school students. Also hosted in the Natrona Heights Presbyterian Church, it is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3 PM to 6 PM. Youth have a check-in time with the program coordinator about mental and emotional health issues, as well as academic assignment completion and attendance. Students receive tutoring or guidance in completing assignments, or participate in peer tutoring. Program activities planned for the upcoming year include financial management classes, career exploration classes, art-based learning and driver education. Programming is designed around student interest, and the program coordinator incorporates future goals from students’ vision boards into planned activities. Members of the community and the Highlands Partnership Network push in to the program with tutoring, lessons based on their talents, and mentoring into career paths.
Students in The Spot earn incentives from improving attendance, grades, or accomplishing steps in achieving their individual goals set at the beginning of their participation.
In addition to providing support to youth, The Spot provides a safe afterschool space. The programs are available at no cost to parents. Youth in Grades 6 to 12 from Highlands School District, private schools, charter or cyber schools, and those who are home-schooled are invited to attend.
Parents interested in enrolling their youth in The Spot can call Highlands Partnership Network at 412-246-2030 or email info@highlandspartnershipnetwork.org.
